Spearfishing (and fishing in general), is an activity as old as humans. It has a long tradition of “earning your spots” and building your own knowledge through experience (long unproductive dives in bad visibility). Since the beginning, fisherman and spearos have tracked conditions and success in their minds, building conscious and subconscious correlations between variable ocean conditions and their success or failure. The never ending learning, and the constant refinement of that knowledge is one of the very attractions of spearfishing.
Once humans could write, fisherman started keeping logbooks. This extended the capability of the diligent and analytical fisherman to improve their ability to correlate observations with success or failure.
Spearcast is designed and built in a way that honors this tradition. It is primarily an observation logging tool which simplifies the collection of data and eliminates the manual entry. Each account starts completely empty. Zero information. No dive sites or target species,. No helpful tips on where to go “near you”. Nothing.
The more you log, the more useful your own data becomes to you. For each new dive you log, we log hundreds of data points across astronomical, weather, ocean, and tidal conditions - prior, during, and after your dive. We combine that data with your own reported observations - current, bait, observed target species, actual harvested fish. This becomes very powerful once you have at least several dives at a single location - or chasing a single target species,
This is our commitment to you:
Each user builds their own logs.
Each user sees only their data.
There is no sharing of dive sites.
There is no sharing of dive logs.
There is no cross analytics of your data with other users data which is used to make your analytics more effective.
We want everyone to have fun diving and shooting fish.
You can pay someone to take you out, put you in the water at the right pace and the right time, and shoot yourself a nice fish - but you can’t BUY being a good spearo. That is only earned through time in the water.
